The architects had designed the ceilings in the children's area of Retroville Shopping mall, which had to create a cosy atmosphere, to have high levels of sound absorption and be easy to perceive visually.
Due to the technical specifications, namely 8 different circle sizes from 1476mm to 3008mm diameter, there was not possible to use materials from series production, which are limited to standard sizes.
Therefore an optimum solution was to produce ceiling elements with individual dimensions from Vogl Deckensysteme, based on perforated acoustic gypsum.
Each circle consisted of several elements, manufactured in a factory in Germany to individual moulds, which had to be assembled on site into complete circles.
The result of the collaboration between Columbus and Vogl Deckensysteme is a ceiling, that creates a sense of overlapping clouds, providing the airflow needed in high occupancy areas.
